To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this letter to express my utmost interest in applying for the English Language Education (ELE) teaching position in your school district. As a 2020 graduate of the Master of Arts in Education program at Michigan State University with ten years experience as an EFL educator in China, I dedicate much of my time to the education and wellbeing of my students both inside and outside of the classroom like the devoted educators in your district. I am TEFL certified and am currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program in order to become fully licensed.

Graduating with honors, I pride myself on a diligent work ethic. This past year, I have been the EFL instructor to over six classes, totaling 150 Chinese first grade students. As communication is vital to such a vivacious group, I will often speak with the students in both English and Mandarin to oversee classroom management. I have received a level four rating (intermediate) on the national Chinese Proficiency Test. Through my efforts, I have been awarded twice — Excellent Teacher Award and New Teachers Award — for my inclusive, resourceful classroom pedagogy.

It is my intent to help the school and the district grow and further explore what positive outcomes can be reached for English language learners. This is an exceptionally diverse population that requires a specialized curriculum and caring teachers who strive to understand who they were in the past, who they are now, and who they may be in the future. Students will understand differences are advantages and our classroom will be a carefully guarded space of reflection. Within my community, not just the classroom or school, I seek to create a global environment where all languages and cultures are wholeheartedly accepted and celebrated for their own uniqueness.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to receiving the opportunity to speak further with you and learn more about the position.

Best,

Jessica Ward

Jessica Ward
